Why is it important to know your hair porosity?

Knowing the porosity of your hair will help you to know how to properly care for your hair. It will also help you to choose your products carefully and with knowledge.

Let's get into the concept of hair porosity. It will give you a clearer understanding when it comes to the structure of the three layers. The three layers include:

The Cuticle: This is the toughest outermost layer. The cuticle protects the inside of the hair shaft from damage.

The Cortex: This is the hair shaft located between the hair cuticle and medulla, which is the thickest hair layer. It also contains the hair's pigment that gives the hair it's color.

The Medulla: This is the innermost layer of the hair shaft. This is the most soft and fragile part of the hair.

I've been a licensed cosmetologist for 13 years. I am the owner/creator of Beautiful Tresses hair care which was designed to help "grow healthy hair from the inside out."

I specialize in holistic treatments and silk presses. I have been putting my clients on a hair care regimen so they can maintain the healthiness of their hair. The regimen consists of them taking our vegan hair vitamins and using our hair growth serum. It has been working perfectly because it fits into their busy schedules.
